TrustPort prepared for the current threat
Regular updating of both the operating system, and security software, is an essential element of computer security. Current proof of this claim is a massive proliferation of the internet worm Conficker, also known as Downadup or Kido, which has affected millions of computers worldwide. It does not strike a fully updated computer; on the contrary, it exploits known vulnerabilities, described by the operating system vendor. It relies on the fact that many users neglect Windows updates.
Conficker worm exploits in particular for its spreading a critical error in the system service, which takes care of network folder sharing. Malicious codes are being remotely launched on an infected computer without the knowledge of the user. In order to prevent its detection and destruction, Conficker immediately disables automatic security updates of the system, and additionally of some antivirus software producers. Subsequently through local networks or through the Internet, it can also attack other computers.
The result of this worm activity is a global network of infected computers, which simply await instructions from people behind its creation. As an example, the infected network can be used for spreading spam. A reliable defense against this threat is the proper installation of operating system patches and updates; however it is equally important to use updated antivirus software on your computer, such as TrustPort Antivirus and TrustPort PC Security.
Conficker worm not only uses network to spread, but can also spread via flash drives. After connecting the infected drive to the computer, malicious code may be automatically launched depending on the system settings. For this reason it is very important to provide flash drive with antivirus protection. For cases like these, it is possible to generate mobile antivirus protection using TrustPort Antivirus and TrustPort PC Security. Another way is to purchase TrustPort Antivirus USB Edition, which ensures resident protection of the flash drive.
TrustPort software offers several solutions for the destruction of this dangerous malware on an already infected computer. One solution is to generate a mobile antivirus on a flash drive from a non infected computer, and then use it to clean the infected system.
With the help of both TrustPort Antivirus and TrustPort PC Security, one can also create a rescue boot disk which can be used to remove severe malware infection. The rescue boot disk contains a non infected operating system and antivirus software, and reliably destroys harmful codes even after a fatal failure of the operating system, installed on the hard drive.
